“If Sinead O Connor, Enya, Loreena McKennett and Venessa Dou were melded into one incredibly talented artist – that artist would be Emer Kenny” Album Network, USA.
Christmas Rose will be available in all major outlets in Ireland from November 23rd. It written by Emer Kenny and her seven year old daughter Rosie and engineered/co-produced by Rosie’s dad, John Murphy. The song is a beautiful and evocative Christmas lullaby that conjures up a child images of Christmas eve – Bell’s…falling snow…Santa….Gifts…Christmas trees and Baby Jesus….
Emer sang, played harp and Keyboards on the track and gathered an experienced and talented ensemble of musicians to play on the CD, Ger McDonnell (U2, Dido) mixed the track, Colin Berrill (The Flaws) played Drums, Ruaidhri O Donovan played upright Bass, Tomas Harrington played Concertina and Patrick Martin played the Bagpipes.
The song slowly builds from a soft maternal lullaby sung beautifully by Ms Kenny accompanied by angelic Harp arpeggios into an evocative celebration of Christmas boasting a sonic palette that reflects the festive season. You would believe the little drummer boy had come alive and the Children’s Choir add even more magic to what is surely this years Christmas number 1.
The 44 Children that make up the Junior Choir are all between the ages of 7-10yrs old and come from many different ethnic and social backgrounds based in the Dundalk region.
The Choir is based on a similar project based in Boston, USA. Its aim is to bring children and young people together from diverse socio-economic, religious and ethnic backgrounds to celebrate diversity, inspire personal development and foster goodwill within and between local communities.
Emer started playing Harp at the age of nine, studying composition and Concert Harp at the College of Music, Dublin and won an Alfred Byte scholarship to further her studies at Trinity College of Music, London. Her first album “Emer Kenny” which showcases her performance and song writing talents was given a worldwide release by Polgram in 1997 to critical acclaim with worldwide sales reaching in excess of 100k.
Emer’s compositions/recordings have been featured on more than 18 commercial recordings, Synchronised to Top US TV shows (Roswell, Fox TV) and major film releases (3rd Miracle, Franchise Pictures)on the big screen and re-mixed by dance Icon Junior Vasques (Madonna, U2.).
All profits from the single will go to the RTE People in Need Trust. This project has received tremendous goodwill and support from all quarters of the Irish Music Industry. All involved in the production from recording to replication have donated their creativity and services for free.
